CÀ MAU - a coastal province in the south pole of Vietnam - is the residence place of over 1.2 million of inhabitants including Kinh, Hoa, Khd me people, etc. They have the tradition of music with the character of Southern culture, in which there is the existence of specific artistic forms such as Tài tử music, cải lương Reformed theatre, and the folk songs of Lý, Hò, Vè, etc. of Kinh people. What’s more, there is the special musical treasure of Khd me and Hoa people.
In the program of Supporting Vietnamese culture for sustainable development from 2005 to 2009 sponsored by SI DA (Sweden), the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology would like to introduce some typical items of Tài tử music collected in Cà Mau province in March 2009.
