Audio sample

QUẢNG BÌNH is a coastal province in the Central part and is the narrowest area on the S-shaped land of Vietnam. It has many famous beauty spots such as Nhật Lệ beach, cổng trời, etc.; especially, Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng national park has been recognized as the natural heritage of the world. It is also the civilized area with Bàu Chó archaeological site and the relics of ancient Hòa Bình and Đông Sơn civilizations. Since olden times, Quảng Bình has been the residential place of many ethnic communities with many special cultures of Kinh people and ethnic minorities gathering in the West of imposing Trưởng Sơn mountain such as Chũt people (consisting of Rục, Mã liếng, Sàch, and Arem branches), Bru - Vân kiều people (including Khùa, Tri, or Ma Coong), etc.

Within the framework of the program “Supporting Vietnamese Culture for the Sustainable Development” sponsored by SIDA (Sweden), the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology would like to introduce some selected folk art items of Kinh, Bru - Vân kiều, Chứt (Rục branch), and Lao people implemented in the fieldwork in May 2008 in Quảng Bình province.
