Audio sample
THỪA THIÊN - HUẾ province is situated in the Central of Vietnam. Its Northern border on Quảng Tri province, while the Southern is bounded by Đà Năng city, the Western border with the neighborhood country Laos, and the Eastern is the East Sea.
Thừa Thiên - Huế is not only known as the metropolis of Đàng Trong (Sound Vietnam), the capital city of Đại Việt (Great Viet) country under the reign of King Quang Trung - Nguyễn Huệ; but it is also famous for a complex of the ancient capital Huế relics and the imperial palace music in Nguyễn dynasty, which is classified as one of the cultural heritage masterpieces of the world. In addition, the culture life of such ethnic minorities as Cơ tu and Tà ôi living in the North-South axis of the Annamite range in the West of Huế province also contributes to the richness and diversity of Hue culture.
In the framework of the program “Supporting Vietnamese culture for sustainable development” sponsored by SI DA (Sweden), the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology would like to introduce some folk music numbers of Cơ tu and Tà ôi ethnics realized during the fieldwork and collection in Thừa Thiên - Huế province in 2008.
