Audio sample
SÓC TRĂNG is in the Southwest of Vietnam, belonging to CỬU Long River Delta and borders on the East Sea with 72 kilometers of coastline. Sóc Trăng is a new land which has been founded for many years by encroaching upon the sea. When visiting SÓC Trăng, we will find a green land with endless rice fields, shrimp ponds, orchards heavy with fruits. Living together with the Kinh people, there are two ethnic groups, the Khmer and the Hoa ethnic people. In the process of immigration, each group living in Sóc Trâng has its own characteristics, creating a various and diversified culture in here.
Within the scope of the project “Supporting Vietnamese Culture for the sustainable development” sponsored by SI DA (Sweden), the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology would like to introduce some selected folk music itemseof the Khmer ethnic group implemented in the fieldwork in 2007 in Sóc Trăng province.
