Audio sample
NGHỆ AN, situating in the North Central Coast, has the biggest natural area of 16,498.5 square kilometers in comparison with other regions nationwide. It borders Thanh Hóa province in the North, Hà Tĩnh province in the South, Laos in the West, and the South China Sea in the East. Nghệ An province is the home of seven ethnic groups, i.e. Việt, Thái, Thổ, Khơ mú, Sán dìu, Hmông, and ơ đu. Nghệ An is the homeland of Uncle Hồ and many other patriotic personalities and intellectuals. Reaching this region, we will have a chance to mix ourselves among the special folk tunes and musical pieces of ethnic groups there.
Belonging to the program “Supporting Vietnamese culture for sustainable development” sponsored by SI DA (Sweden), the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology would like to introduce some folk musical numbers of Khơ mú, Hmong, and Thái ethnic groups realized in the fieldwork and collection in 2009 in Nghệ An province.
