Vietnamese symphonies
For many recent decades, quite a lot of Vietnamese symphonies composed by many musician generations have penetrated into life with full vitality and mysterious power by nature of musical arts, many of wich have won music lovers’ admiration and respect domestically and abroad. However, in the field of publishing, there are still many problems in Vietnamese symphonies that need concern and solutions so that more and more works composed are not to “store in a drawer or put in a shop window” for the composer himself or herself to enjoy and admire” and then lost in line with the passage of time as many cases have occurred… It is pity that this event occurred not only in regard of unpublished works but also of some ever-famed works which are now in the same boat of losing and having not found their full score yet.
With the goal for wider and deeper preserving, promoting and popularizing of values of Vietnamese symphony music in modern life to better meet the demand of social life before the context of exchange, integration and globalization, publishing the book named Vietnamese symphonies in this period is very urgent. Disseminating, popularizing and educating symphonic music aestheticism in particular and musical arts in general for Vietnamese public for the past many years have been carried out. However, in the period of rapid and strong economic development as today in Vietnam, this task needs more synchronous concern and implementation in all activities of education, training, performing, composing, researching and disseminating, etc, so that symphony music can increasingly achieve a great social position and significance in spiritual life of Vietnamese people. With such desire, the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology has gathered and gradually published Vietnamese typical symphony works. Symphony works released by the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology are based on criterion that these works have ever been performed, broadcasted on radio waves, TV or rewarded domestically or abroad.
Vietnamese typical symphony works will be step by step released in many years. In those works, authors will bee introduced in order of their age from the elderly to the young and works in order of their publishing time. However, gathering full scores depends on the enthusiastic support of each author or his/her family (in case the author died). Therefore, it is likely that ever-performed or rewarded symphonies will be not published in time for their full scores have not been received or for any objective or subjective reasons.
