SUMMARY: From the very beginning, professional music training institutions in Vietnam have incorporated traditional musical instruments into their teaching curricula. However, the training programs for performance of traditional musical instruments in Vietnam’s professional music teaching have synthesized traditional and modern repertoires, Western and Vietnamese music, vocal and instrumental music, creating a dilemma in the development. This article outlines a picture with selected features to identify traditional musical instruments within the training strategy.
