A selection of Vietnamese contemporary compositions for traditional ensembles
A selection of Vietnamese contemporary traditional ensembles" is the title given to a set of 5 music books of 2,400 pages which was officially published by the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology after its there years concentrating on researching and selecting (from 1999 to January 2003). The publication features 52 compositions by 28 composers, of which, many have won prizes in composing competitions and nation-wide professional festivals. The work is laid-out sophisticatedly and systematically with compositions classified according to their chronological order of composing and public performing.
In addition to diversity in theme materials, 52 compositions also show richness in themes. Compositions focus on reflecting life reality of country and people of Vietnam during its long period of struggling for national independence. Many compositions of this theme have left great impressions on audiences. A considerable number of compositions with themes about love for country and Vietnamese people has been winning the warm applause of nation-wide audiences up to now.
The existence of "A selection of Vietnamese contemporary traditional ensembles" will hopefully be a contribution to further elucidating a viewpoint, a way of thinking and realizing in preserving and promoting our traditional music. It is also hoped that this publication will be a significant gift to those who are passionately contributing to setting up a contemporary traditional music of Vietnam.
